We believe in the power of art.

We are AIM AT ART. We were founded in 2009 by Emily de Valk and Emily Vermeer, art historians who specifically wanted to enter the world of large organisations. Their original goal was to make this world more creative. Since then, our ambition has grown. We now tackle today’s major challenges in an entirely original way.

Core values

Stimulating

We immerse you in an entirely new experience, pose shrewd questions, and surprise and change you.

Adventurous

We enjoy experiencing quirky, extraordinary art and culture, and discovering new worlds for you to explore.

Connecting

We create and facilitate the dialogue between art and business, between teams and team members. We inspire the business world with the thoughts and actions of artists.

Team

We are a collection of scholars and experience experts in the fields of art, organisational change, business and creativity. Our greatest strengths are flexibility, innovative power, the ability to ask shrewd questions, and our warm relationship with each other.

VACANCIES

Which piece of art has touched and changed you?

‘Black Square’ (1913). Malevich painted a black square over a variety of colours. It represents the end of painting, because the painting contains all colours, and all images too. The underlying colours are visible here and there through the cracks in the work. For me, this work is all about imagination and taking a truly different perspective. It opened my eyes to the power of art, and was the reason I took up my art history studies.

Which piece of art has touched and changed you?

I was 17 and encountered a piece of art by Henri Matisse. It was an emotional experience and I felt as if I’d been touched. The image, which was in an art book, came to life and I realised then that works of art are about the personal stories of people who dared to walk a new path. I decided then and there that I was going to study art history and bring these stories to life so that we can continue to learn from them.

Which piece of art has touched and changed you?

During my studies, I saw ‘De ideale Ernst of het belang van een echtgenoot’ (‘The ideal Earnest, or the importance of a spouse’) by ‘t Barre Land, a theatre collective. This performance superbly and magnificently interweaves two Oscar Wilde plays into a single, fast-paced play. For me, this performance represents the way art demonstrates what becomes possible when you step off the beaten path and out of the system, and dare to colour outside of the lines.

Which piece of art has touched and changed you?

As an artist and program designer, I want to achieve a new perspective on the world through art. A work of art that illustrates this for me is “Guernica” by Pablo Picasso. Picasso was creating this work when a fascist soldier came in. The soldier saw the painting and asked Picasso, “Did you do this?” To which Picasso replied, “No, you did this!” Art imitates life and life imitates art; it transforms our perspective of the world.

Which piece of art has touched and changed you?

During a summer course in Berlin, the final assignment was the ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’, or ‘total artwork’. Everyone was allowed to change something about the work in turn. In the process, previous additions were altered or disappeared, and something surprising happened each time. It was a collective process that showed me how important it is to keep an open mind, and that you sometimes have to be ‘impolite’ to arrive at something that is really new. This can be surprising and shakes up your own thinking.

Which piece of art has touched and changed you?

When I first stood before a Mark Rothko painting as a young girl, I did not understand that a purple surface could be considered art. Still, I stood there and looked at it, and the canvas danced before my eyes and moved me.
Art can touch you for no apparent reason, and I want to share this with others. You can have an opinion about art, feel something, and perhaps learn from it. And you don’t have to know anything about it (yet), just as I didn’t then.

Which piece of art has touched and changed you?

In 2018, I was blown away by a performance on burnout by the NKK NXT, the talent development programme of the Netherlands Chamber Choir. I just felt what it is like to be burnout. The choral singing, the lighting, the choreography. It was so powerful.
After that performance, I knew: I want to combine the power of art with my background as an organisation and work psychologist. And so I did.
